The Emerald Armada set sail in early 2010. The fleet began with the friendship of singer/songwriter Augustus Allen and bassist Gary Lynas. From an early age these two companions grew up to love the sound of raw, energetic and meaningful music from such artists as John Martyn to Pearl Jam. Competing in a constant battle to perfect that “Freebird” solo, both became craftsmen in their instruments. Benjamin Hamilton blasted into the scene after being introduced to Augustus through their solo projects. Ben brought a unique and quirky flavour to the mix with his endless melodies and ear for an uplifting harmony…they have never looked back since.
In late 2009 at a ‘Scorpion Jack’ (www.myspace.com/scorpionjack) session, Augustus was blown away by the beat master Dermot Moynagh and his incredibly gifted Bodhran playing, winning the 2009 All Ireland Bodhran Competition. The rest is history and after a few promising sessions The Emerald Armada was brought to life with the soul ambition of creating music from all of lifes little inspirations. After an impressive debut show in the acclaimed Black Box, followed by a jam-packed performance at the John Hewitt, The Emerald Armada are ready to roll on and take the seven seas by storm! “If this was their first gig then what will they be like after a few more!” Fusebox Promotions.

The career of Henry McCullough cuts through just about every conceivable facet of rock music, and touches upon some of its most glorious moments. Growing up in the seaside resort of Portstewart, Henry’s first musical venture was as guitarist with Irish showband The Skyrockets and the years to follow found him doing the dance hall circuit with similar outfits, including the popular Gene and the Gents.

When the blues boom hit Ireland, Henry became involved with the rougher side of music through the outfit that were to become Eire Apparent. Managed for a time by Chas Chandler, Eire Apparent were one of the many bands to take part in package tours of Britain, alongside groups like The Move, Pink Floyd, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Amen Corner. After an untimely exit from the band, Henry nailed down some of the finest mix of traditional and rock with his work as part of the legendary Sweeney’s Men. It is said that this line-up more or less invented the concept of Folk-Rock.
He then drifted to London where he became steeped in the blues scene, rubbing shoulders with some of the greats of the genre who were just coming to the attention of the British revivalists. An encounter with a young Sheffield singer led to a job and Henry’s first brush with the really big time – as part of Joe Cocker’s Grease Band. Tours and albums followed quickly, including an appearance at Woodstock and a lengthy period of work in the States.

At 16, she enrolled in the singing X-factor competition in Slovakia. Vierka became the third winner of the Slovak edition.
Her life story looks like a Hollywood movie. Roma family had had to move from a poor place in Slovakia to the Czech Republic, where Vierka started her music career. Then she joined X-factor competition and won. As she is of Roma origin, her victory meant a lot for the Slovak Roma community. She came to Belfast in 2008, where she had to start her music career all over again, from the very beginning. Fabrika Festival can be her first big move forward.

The performance takes place in a 33-year-old Mercedes L 508 D. It is a sort of a camper van, used for traveling for a long time without having to return home. Our first thought upon seeing it was – it is a house for emigrants! We have altered our approach to the drama by Mrożek, by pasting it into the current and realistic both here (in Poland, entering the EU) and there (in Western Europe) situation.
The modern “Drzymała’s cart” becomes the location for the drama’s action. The limited space, allowing to let in only 11 persons (actors and spectators) creates the atmosphere of a reality show. In this situation, the car becomes our (actors and spectators) house, with which we enter (literally and metaphorically) Europe. Just as in any other house, we go to the bathroom, watch TV, eat, sleep…
€migrants (the title written with the Euro sign € instead of E) by The Wicza Theater, directed by Romuald Wicza – Pokojski, one of the most gifted dramatists and directors of the young generation, is the first European premiere in a camping van.

Balkan Alien Sound founded in 2007 after Bouzouki player Martin Coyle returned to Ireland from his travels and studies of Eastern European and Balkan music and culture. With a vast interest in the folk and gypsy music of the Balkan regions and Klezmer music he approached a group of his close musician friends to form what is now Balkan Alien Sound. The seven piece ensemble ranges from Irish traditional players, Blues and Jazz musicians and Classical and Folk players. With this melting pot of backgrounds Balkan Alien Sound provide their own fresh take on the music of Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Macedonia and Turkey along with various other gypsy stylings and improvisation.
The instrumentation of the group is mostly string based with Bouzouki, Violin, Bass/Contra Bass and Guitar, but also has Accordion, Whistles, Percussion and regional Vocals from various Balkan countries. The music that comes from this is often fast and furious demanding to be danced to verging on ska with odd time signatures and rhythms often ending in riotous crowd participation. However they also approach the slower folk songs of Serbia, Bulgaria and Macedonia which vocalist Aideen McGinn tackles with precision and subtlty.
